Dixie is a sorrell mare about 14.3 hands born 6/27/95 and the 3rd mare we purchased back in July of 2006.  She is the dam of our mare Lady.

 

 

 

 

 

 

R.L. had bred his stallion Danney Joe to a mare named Yank’s Black Angel.  When her owner brought her back to rebreed, she had Dixie at her side.  R.L. was so impressed with the filly that he bought her when she was weaned.  He had high hopes for Dixie but unfortuntely, at 8 months old, she came down with EPM.  For the next 3 months she had to be kept in a stall and given injections daily.  The treatments worked and there is little evidence of her ever having the disease.  But it did leave her with a strong dislike of being shut up and not very trusting of people.  R.L. couldn’t be sure she would be sound so sold her to me for a broodmare.

 

When we got her we spent a lot ot time just being around her and trying to get our hands on her.  We discovered that she really liked to be scratched all over and used that to our advantage.  Eventually, I was able to get her to let me catch her and lead her around without a problem.

She has some great bloodlines being a daughter of Danney Joe’s Golden Shadow. Her pedigree also includes Mack K’s Yankee, Missouri’s Rambler E., Baldy Chief and Golden Rebel T. She is registered with the Foundation Foxtrotter Heritage Association and has a v-factor of V-127.  She has also been DNA’d.

We bred her to our stallion Baron and she gave us a super nice bay colt on July 21, 2008 that I named Shadow. We plan to repeat this breeding in 2010.
