Courtly

When Glenn and I made that trip out to Missouri to get our first Foxtrotters, I had asked R.L. if he had a small, really quiet, gentle horse I could teach someone to ride on, so he showed me Courtly.  He said she was the one they always put first-time riders on.  She certainly wasn’t the prettist horse he had and her feet and head looked like they belonged on a horse twice her size.  But she had the sweetest, most lovable disposition I had ever seen on a horse.  She would actually walk away from grain to be loved over.  And to be only 3 years old, she was amazingly calm and tolerant of anything.  So she came home with us that day too.  I was able to teach a friend how to ride on her and she was perfect for the lessons.  We really haven’t been doing much with here with so many others to work with.  But she is so good, I usually pull her out of the pasture about once a year and give pony rides with her at the Crewe Homecoming Celebration.  A couple of years ago, a Theraputic Riding Center for the Handicapped opened up close to me and needed horses.  so I let them borrow Courtly for their summer session.  Everyone loved her and she became the “star” of their program.

Courtly is sired by G. Pride’s Action Jackson # 94-44672 and her dam is Princess Di-Anne CLL.  Her grandsire is the well-known Danny Joe’s Golden Shadow, # 90-35619.  You’ll see me refer to Danny Joe a lot because he is the cornerstone of my breeding program.

Courtly will be 8 years old this year (2010) and she is 14.1 1/2 hands.  She qualifies for the Foundation Foxtrotter Heritage Association with a V-factor of V-86.  She has also been DNA’d.

This little mare is a perfect horse for a beginner or kids.  Or even someone just looking for a shorter horse.  She no trouble to catch, load or clip and loves to be bathed.  She does have this little game she likes to play where she will get a mouthful of water out of the trough, hold it, and then walk over to you and dribble it on your head.  I guess she thinks everyone likes water as much as she does!  She’s not at all a dominant or aggressive horse and the one I put with my babies when I wean them.
