At Glenmar Farms we train all breeds of horses with Natural Horsemanship methods and work with both the horse and rider.  Our speciality is producing and training horses to be safe, willing, quiet  Trail horses that are a pleasure to ride.

We also do Colt starting , Foundation training for all disciplines and work with problem horses..

Our approach to horse training:

Glenmar Farms is not a “Drop off your horse and hope for the best” training facility.  We are dedicated to working with both you and your horse to correct any problems you’re having and improve your relationship with your horse.  All owners are encouraged to be here as much as possible to participate in their horse’s training.

Our training philosophy is based on gaining your horse’s respect and trust through the use of specific groundwork exercises.  Then we move on to excercises under saddle that will teach your horse how to be light and responsive to the slightest cue.  And as part of our training program, you will be instructed on how to do these exercises yourself at home so your horse will continue to be a willing, respectful partner in the future.

Because every horse is different and owners vary in what level of training they want or need for their horses, we base our training fee by the week.  In general, and depending on the horse, it takes approximately 4-6 weeks to get a horse respectful and responsive and going good under saddle in all three gaits.  We usually have them doing some trail riding by then, also.

For an inexperienced rider,  a very green horse, a colt that’s just been started, we usually recommend at least 6-8 weeks to get the horse really quiet and safe both in the arena and out on the trails.

For horses that are basically broke to ride but may just be lazy, unresponsive or real “chargy” or spooky, it may only take 2-3 weeks to eliminate the problem.  Some more minor problems, like difficulty in trailer loading, standing tied, no go, too much go, etc., can often be overcome in less than two weeks!

So, rather than a generic training course for every horse, we customize the training to the owner’s desired achievements. This way, the owner gets exactly what they are looking for in the shortest amount of time and at the lowest possible cost.
