TRAINING

Glenmar Farms is not a “Drop off your horse and hope for the best” training facility.  We are dedicated to working with both you and your horse to correct any problems your having and improve your relationship with your horse.

Our training philosophy is based on gaining your horse’s respect and trust through the use of specific groundwork exercises.  Then we move on to exercises under saddle that will teach your horse how to be light and responsive to the slightest cue.  Our experience with these exercises has shown us that once your horse is adept at doing them, most if not all of your horse’s problems or bad behavior will have disappeared.  And as part of our training program, you will be instructed on how to do these exercises yourself at home so your horse will continue to be a willing, respectful partner in the future.

FREE EVALUATION

We offer a free evaluation for anyone that would like to schedule an appointment to bring their horse by for us to check out.  We will assess your horse’s behavior and attitude and make recommendations on which training program would best benefit both you and your horse at the least amount of expense.  We do reserve the right to refuse any horse that is deemed too dangerous to handle safely.  Please, no stallions at this time.

We offer several training programs designed to meet your horse’s particular needs and to match your goals for your horse.  All our programs include full Board plus instruction for the owner on how to practice the exercises your horse has been taught.

PROGRAM 1.  TWO WEEKS

Two weeks of concentrated groundwork designed for horses of any age whether saddle broke or not.  It’s perfect for horses that are pushy and disrespectful, lazy and unresponsive or even hot and nervous.  Your horse will learn how to stay out of your personal space, move when you say move and come to you when signaled, read your body language and respond to your slightest cue for backing, leading, lungeing for respect, yielding over the forequarters and hindquarters, giving you their feet and standing quietly while tied or getting a bath.  Minimum of 12 lessons (approx. 18 hours of training).  $300.00

PROGRAM 2:  FOUR WEEKS

This program is designed for horses that are already being ridden but may have some problems or issues with being pushy and disrespectful, spooky, don’t want to go when you ask or won’t slow down.  They may be hard to stop or turn, won’t stand still to be mounted or want to jig all day on the trail etc.  The first two weeks is the basic groundwork described in Program #1.  The next two weeks is specific exercises under saddle that teach your horse how to be light and flexible, go into any gait with just a slight squeeze with your legs, maintain that gait until you tell them to change it, to stop with a verbal cue without you touching the reins, yielding their hindquarters under saddle, vertical flexion, and backing-up.  They also learn how to move in a straight line without you having to constantly guide them to keep them on the trail.  Minimum of 24 lessons (approx. 36 hours of training)

Cost:  $600.00

PROGRAM 3    COLT STARTING    6 WEEKS

Includes everything in Program #2 after two weeks of getting the colt started under saddle.

Cost:  $900.00
